Michigan literacy no longer just an educational challenge, affecting workforce and economy

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Nearly 300 leaders gathered in Detroit Monday for the first Michigan Literacy Summit, discussing challenges kids face with reading comprehension and ways to improve it.

Michigan currently ranks 44th in the nation for fourth grade reading, falling more than 10 spots in just over five years.
