The Mackinac Bridge reopened after closing for over an hour on Saturday, Dec. 27, for a “special situation,” according to the Mackinac Bridge Authority website.
An employee at the Mackinac Bridge Authority confirmed over the phone the bridge was closed at 3:33 p.m. A Facebook post from the St. Ignace Police Department at 2:45 p.m. said, “MACKINAC BRIDGE CLOSED – Due to an emergency incident. Please stay clear of the area until further notice.” The post has since been updated to say the bridge has reopened.
During the bridge closure, web cams on the Mackinac Bridge Authority website showed no traffic in either direction on the bridge and emergency vehicles at each end, as of 4 p.m. A photo from Mackinaw City looking north shows cars lined up on the bridge with police lights on at the top…
