The streets of Detroit bear witness to a surge of violence in the new year as a stabbing incident escalated to a fatal shooting, prompting Detroit Police Department to seek assistance from the public. According to a report by WWJ Newsradio, in the early hours of January 4th, officers from the 8th Precinct were dispatched to the 15900 block of Grand River Avenue after receiving reports of a stabbing. A man in his 20s was urgently taken to a local hospital with multiple stab wounds and is still reported to be in critical condition.
Police had barely begun to investigate the stabbing when a second suspect decided to drastically increase the toll of the night’s violence. In a rapidly unfolding sequence, a second victim was shot and killed at the same location. Michael Harris, who police allege is the shooter, was arrested at the scene. Harris faces charges of first-degree murder, felony firearm, and resisting and obstructing. The details of the event were also obtained from the City of Detroit’s website, DetroitRewards.tv.
The aftermath of such tragedies often leaves a community grappling with grief and seeking justice. Detroit Police are not only handling the investigation but also reaching out to the populace for help in tracking down the other assailants responsible for the stabbing. DetroitRewards.tv is offering a reward of $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest, with hope that an incentive might encourage witnesses to step forward.
