Wyandotte man pleads guilty to embezzling from a former employer

LANSING, Mich.— According to the Attorney Generals office 45-year-old Jason Garza has pled guilty to ten felony charges from embezzling more than $166,000 from his employer, Montway Auto Transport.

Garza was charge in June of 2025 and is now convicted of the following charges:

  • One count of Embezzlement More Than $100,000, a 20-year felony;
  • One count of Embezzlement More Than $50,000 but Less Than $100,000, a 15-year felony;
  • One count of Embezzlement More Than $1,000 but Less Than $20,000, a 5-year felony;
  • Three corresponding counts of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime; and
  • Four counts of Failure to File Income Taxes, a 5-year felony.

While working for Montway Auto Transport from 2021 to 2022, he offered customers unauthorized discounts if they paid Garza directly through a mobile payment app. Garza kept the payments for personal use and failed to hand over any funds to Montway.

In his plea agreement Garza will face 24-month minimum term of incarceration and has agreed to pay full restitution to the Michigan Department of Treasury, Montway LLC, and Travelers Insurance, amounting to more than $500,000…
