Thousands of Southeast Michigan residents lost power Friday as high winds took hold in the region – with the number of those outages spiking throughout the day.
The National Weather Service in Detroit has issued a high wind warning that will be in effect for 10 p.m. Friday for an area that includes Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. The NWS said in a special weather statement issued at 12:42 p.m. Friday that wind gusts were reaching in excess of 55 mph, including a gust of 71 mph observed in Ann Arbor.
