For Ron Thiede, serving on the Taylor City Council is the fulfillment of a goal that has been decades in the making. But more than a personal milestone, the moment represents something deeper: a lifelong commitment to the community he has always called home.
Thiede was sworn in earlier this year, joining the seven-member council that helps guide policy and priorities for the Downriver city. While the ceremony marked a new chapter, his interest in public service began long ago.
“In 1987, at just 26 years old, I ran for City Council for the first time,” Thiede said. “I narrowly missed election by only 114 votes. Even then, serving the community was something I felt strongly about.”…
