34-Year-Old Detroit Driver Dies After Losing Control During I-96 Merge Crash That Triggered Chain-Reaction Collision Involving Semi Truck and Multiple Vehicles

DETROIT, MICHIGAN — A tragic chain-reaction crash on Interstate 96 in Detroit has left a 34-year-old driver dead after a series of collisions involving multiple vehicles, including a semi truck, unfolded Sunday night.

According to Michigan State Police, the crash occurred around 8:50 p.m. near Warren Avenue, beginning with a merging incident that quickly escalated into a deadly sequence of events.

Initial Crash During Highway Merge

Investigators say the 34-year-old man was driving a Hyundai and attempting to merge onto I-96 from I-94 when he struck the side of a semi truck.

Following the impact, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete wall, leaving the car disabled and partially blocking the left lane of the highway.
