Detroit reopens redevelopment plans for Packard Plant site after prior deal expires

DETROIT, MI – Detroit officials are taking a fresh look at the future of the long-vacant Packard Plant site after a redevelopment agreement tied to the previous administration expired.

The site had been slated for a mixed-use project known as “Packard Park,” which included plans to reuse portions of the historic structure, add a roughly 400,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and create public space alongside community amenities like a cultural center and indoor skate park.

But that proposal was tied to a Letter of Intent that expired Feb. 11, 2026, leaving the project without a formal path forward…
