Brake-Check Showdown Sparks Gunfire, Shuts Lodge Freeway Near 7 Mile

Southbound traffic on the Lodge Freeway (M-10) ground to a halt near 7 Mile Road yesterday after a reported shooting that turned a routine commute into a crime scene. Troopers and investigators shut down the southbound lanes while they combed the freeway and service drives for evidence. Authorities said the caller who reported the incident was not struck, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators told Metro Detroit News that the driver of a Dodge Ram claimed he was “brake checked” by a Chevy SUV. After the Ram shifted into the center lane, the SUV allegedly pulled alongside and someone inside fired several shots. According to the outlet, the driver was not hit, and crews shut down the freeway near 7 Mile while they collected shell casings and other potential evidence.

What investigators say

Troopers later met up with the caller near I-75 and Trumbull, and Metro Detroit News reported that authorities were seen searching the freeway for evidence, including with a K-9 unit. Investigators said the case remains open as detectives work to identify the vehicles involved…..
