Four Rescued After Boat Flips on Detroit River

Michigan lakes and rivers are a true wonder of nature. But it’s always important to respect Mother Nature, because you never know what she will throw at you.

From people falling through the ice to being thrown overboard due to intense wind and massive waves, Michigan offers a variety of beautiful and scenic sights, along with potentially deadly situations. Last year, we even reported on several stories of boats exploding on waterways in the Great Lakes State.

What Happened on the Detroit River

We’ve had numerous accounts of miraculous saves on Michigan waters, and some not-so-pleasant tragedies that have unfolded. Luckily, this story has a positive outcome.

This one happened on the Detroit River, right near the new Gordie Howe International Bridge. Four guys were out there fishing, just a normal day, nothing out of the ordinary. Then suddenly, their boat flips according to Audacy.

But this is where everything lined up the right way. You had people nearby, Good Samaritans, who jumped in to help right away. Then you had crews from the Detroit Fire Department responding quickly, pulling three of the men out of the water. A fourth was rescued by the United States Coast Guard. All four made it out.

One of them did end up going to the hospital for possible hypothermia, which tells you everything you need to know about the conditions out there. Another refused treatment, and the other two were checked out on scene.
