Long-dormant Lange Park in Taylor being transformed

For years, Taylor’s Lange Park was more of a memory than a destination.

Now, after decades of sitting largely unused, the 40-acre property on the city’s southwest side is being reimagined as what city officials hope will become a regional draw, with a skate park, BMX pump track, disc golf course, dog park, fishing piers, mountain bike trail, walking paths and a large new playscape created to serve everyone from young families to teens to seniors. The redevelopment is being funded through a $4.6 million partnership between the City of Taylor and Wayne County.

Taylor officials recently invited Wayne County Executive Warren Evans and members of his staff to tour the site, where construction is still underway but the outline of the new park is already taking shape. New pavilions are in place, trails cut through the wooded property, a bridge links the mainland to an island in the small lake, and fishing piers and the entrance to the city’s first dog park are already visible. City officials are aiming for a summer debut…
