Photo: Tree falls on top of home in North Carolina amid severe storms

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Some severe thunderstorms rolled into central NC on Monday evening, leaving in their wake hundreds of people without power and a home smashed by a tree in Franklin County.

Duke Energy’s outage map showed more than 1,000 people without power in the Triangle, with even more farther southeast near Lumberton.

The outage near Lumberton and the outage along Smithfield Road in Wake County were both caused by a tree falling on equipment, according to Duke Energy. The outage map showed crews were working to fix both outages, and power was estimated to be restored by 10:30 p.m. at the time of publication. That outage has since been restored.

Severe weather risk on Tuesday in the Triad

In addition to multiple power outages, trees have fallen elsewhere in central NC, including in Franklin County.

According to Franklin County Emergency Services, a massive tree fell on a home in Zebulon around 6 p.m. due to severe weather moving through the area. Franklin County Emergency Management, the Pilot Fire Department and the American Red Cross of North Carolina all responded to the call…
