DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Despite all of the recent rainfall landing in Durham, the city’s supply of water is not nearly replenished.
On Thursday, the Department of Water Management told CBS 17 that while the rain has helped yards and landscapes, possibly lowering water demand, the storms haven’t supported the city’s reservoir storage at all.
Lake Michie, Durham’s main source of water, was once filled with boats and swimmers. But now, people can still walk on a large portion of the dry lake.
“We’re at stage 2 water shortage response,” Durham Water Management Assistant Director for Administration, Communication & Compliance Sydney Miller said. “It’s very serious. And we are considering when we may have to go to a stage 3.”…
