DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Free Mosquito Dunks are being offered to homes in Durham County, officials said Tuesday.
The Durham County Department of Public Health is providing the free Mosquito Dunks, which can control mosquito populations around a home for up to 30 days when placed in standing water. The Dunks contain Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTi), a natural bacteria that kills mosquito larvae, but is harmless to pets and other wildlife.
Packs of Mosquito Dunks are available from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Durham County Human Services Building’s Environmental Health Division front desk at 414 E. Main St. They may be picked up on a walk-in basis while supplies last, according to Durham County officials.
