A 13-year-old boy who went missing from the small Orange County community of Efland on Wednesday has been found safe, according to local deputies. Miguel Junior Caro had last been seen in Efland roughly two hours before authorities put out a public appeal for help finding him, and within that same window he was located.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office – North Carolina initially asked the public for help locating Caro, describing him as 13 years old, about four feet eleven inches tall, and weighing approximately 124 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt printed with 2026 across the front and covered in signatures, along with dark sweatpants and Spider-Man Crocs. The agency’s update confirmed he had since been located and was safe, and asked anyone who spots a missing child in similar circumstances to call 911.
Why There Was No Amber Alert
Some commenters on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook post asked why Caro’s case wasn’t labeled endangered or elevated to a statewide alert.
