There’s a new school at the top of the list for best public high school in the Triangle, according to the latest rankings from U.S. News & World Report.
Wake STEM Early College High School in Cary dethroned Raleigh Charter High School as the top local school in U.S. News & World Report 2026-27 Best High Schools rankings released Tuesday. Five Triangle schools (Wake STEM, Raleigh Charter, Green Level High, Woods Charter and Green Hope High) were ranked among the top 500 public high schools nationally.
North Carolina had 13 of the nation’s top 500 high schools and 152 schools ranked in the top 25% nationally. North Carolina was ranked 24th nationally among the states for having a quarter of its high schools in the top 25%.
