Durham Housing Authority leaders say former Forest Hill Heights residents will have the right to return once the long-planned redevelopment of the site is complete, and the agency says safeguards are in place to ensure that promise is honored.
The project, known as Tribute Rising, is being marketed as a way to honor Hayti’s rich history while creating new housing and opportunities for future residents. Developers say the redevelopment will transform the former Forest Hill Heights public housing site into a mixed-income community with about 900 apartments on 15 acres.
