North Carolina fugitive captured in Lewiston

A North Carolina woman wanted on multiple assault charges dating back three months has been apprehended in Lewiston, the U.S. Marshals Service announced Thursday.

Alyalia Chaibounmingkhouan, 19, of Raleigh, North Carolina, had been wanted by police since Nov. 7, 2023, on one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

The marshals service described the location of Chaibounmingkhouan as a collaborative law enforcement effort with the Maine Violent Offender Task Force and the Lewiston Police Department.

Chaibounmingkhouan is pending extradition back to North Carolina where she will be arraigned on outstanding charges.

The marshals service did not provide any details about the charges against Chaibounmingkhouan. A Google search for her name returned two results: the official announcement of her capture, and a Facebook profile of an Alyalia Chaibounmingkhouan of Charlotte, North Carolina, who updated her profile photo on Dec. 10, 2023, more than a month after the fugitive was first wanted by police.
