There was a scary scene that unfolded early in North Carolina State’s 34-30 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday.
Quarterback Grayson McCall was on the receiving end of a devastating hit that knocked his helmet off and resulted in him being carted off the field and taken to a local hospital.
The early updates on McCall were promising, but NC State gave an even more promising update later in the evening when it announced that McCall has already been released from the hospital and that all scans were normal.
McCall was a four-year starter at Coastal Carolina before transferring to NC State this season. He completed 3-of-5 passes for 42 yards before being injured on Saturday.
On the play which knocked him out of the game, McCall was injured during a scramble for a first down when he was hit from multiple directions by several Wake Forest defenders, dislodging his helmet.
McCall was replaced by CJ Bailey who completed 28-of-42 passes for 272 yards, two touchdowns and interception. NC State had a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, but allowed Wake Forest to score two touchdowns in the closing eight minutes for the win.
