Virginia falls at home to North Carolina 41-14

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Omarion Hampton ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns, while J.J. Jones caught five passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns to help North Carolina beat Virginia 41-14, snapping a four-game losing streak.

The Tar Heels (4-4, 1-3 ACC) dominated the second and third quarters, ending their longest losing streak since 2018. Virginia (4-4, 2-3) struggled offensively, only scoring a touchdown late in the game when backup quarterback Tony Muskett threw a 68-yard pass to JR Wilson.

North Carolina outgained Virginia 428 yards to 288 and held them to 6 of 16 on third downs. The Tar Heels’ defense recorded 10 sacks, with Kaimon Rucker getting three and Beau Atkinson adding two.

Virginia’s offensive line faced challenges, with Noah Josey stepping in as center due to injuries. A misstep early in the game resulted in an 11-yard loss at the North Carolina 1-yard line, forcing Virginia to settle for a field goal.

By the fourth quarter, North Carolina led 38-6, securing the most lopsided win in this rivalry since 2013.
