The ongoing construction on South Franklin Street hit another roadblock, but Wake Forest officials have provided an update, signaling progress that residents have been waiting for. As reported on the Town of Wake Forest website yesterday, dry utility conflicts led to delays that have since been addressed with changes approved by the Board of Commissioners.
With the fresh approval in hand, utility companies, including Wake Electric Membership Corporation (WEMC), Ting, Brightspeed, and Charter, have started the task of moving their lines to make way for the road expansion. This phase of relocation is expected to stretch into early June 2025. Running through the first part of June 2025, these adjustments are critical to ensure not just the continuity, but the safety of the project.
Once utilities have wrapped up the relocation of their infrastructure, Fred Smith Co., the contractor representing the town, is slated to pick up where they left off with the actual road-widening work.
