Durham man remembered after deadly Butner road rage shooting

BUTNER, N.C. (WNCN) — A Henderson couple arrested in a deadly road rage shooting in Butner earlier this week made their first appearance in Granville County Court Wednesday.

Police said 40-year-old Maquita Blue and 49-year-old Travis Jones are charged with first-degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle in connection with the death of 63-year-old Broderick Hines of Durham. Both were denied bond and will make their next court appearance on April 23.

According to Butner Public Safety, the shooting happened Monday around 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 85 heading into Exit 189.

Hines was found in his truck with a gunshot wound after crashing into a pole on the northbound off-ramp on Gate Number 2 Road. He later died at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, according to Butner Public Safety…
