A 53-year-old man was shot and killed by an N.C. state trooper after leading authorities on a chase, officials said. He ran from a traffic stop when the officer found out the man had multiple active arrest warrants, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
At about 9:45 a.m., a State Highway Patrol member stopped Philip Aiken Brown of Creedmoor on I-85 South near mile marker 185 in Durham County, when the trooper noticed Brown’s pickup truck didn’t have a registration plate, according to Sgt. Chris Knox with Highway Patrol.
Brown gave police false information when he was pulled over, but authorities discovered his identity, and that he had “multiple active orders for his arrest at the time of the traffic stop,” the highway patrol said.
