Homicide suspect dead after Wednesday incident at Durham Police Headquarters, chief says

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A man in the custody of the Durham Police Department died after an incident at the Durham Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

According to Durham Police Chief Patrice Andrews, officers were interviewing a homicide suspect inside the building shortly before 6 p.m. As he was being prepared to be transported, he lunged toward an officer.

The suspect ended up with an officer’s weapon and after a physical struggle, the suspect fired the gun, the chief said. Life-saving measures were performed by officers until EMS arrived. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the chief…
