DURHAM, NC – Durham native and nationally recognized economic strategist Joshua Gunn is returning home to lead the City of Durham’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development. Effective July 14, 2025, Gunn will bring his proven record of inclusive growth, dynamic leadership, and cultural awareness to help shape Durham’s economic future.
A Strategic Leader with National Impact
Gunn currently serves as President and CEO of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce in Arizona, where he represents more than 1,500 businesses in the Phoenix area and drives strategy in one of the country’s fastest-growing regions. He previously led the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce in Illinois, where he spearheaded workforce initiatives, regional talent campaigns, and diversity-focused strategies supporting minority-owned enterprises.
Deep Roots in Durham
From 2016 to 2020, Gunn served as Vice President of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, where he led corporate recruitment and economic development efforts. A graduate of Jordan High School, Gunn holds a psychology degree from North Carolina A&T State University and has long been committed to empowering communities.

Beyond boardrooms, Gunn is a lifelong hip-hop artist and cultural entrepreneur who brings a creative lens to leadership. His experience touring internationally and founding an entertainment company informs his people-first, innovative approach to economic transformation.
