North Carolina scammers pretending to be city workers, demanding payment for code violations, police warn

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Raleigh police are warning neighbors about a recent scam that comes with a knock at your door.

Police Lt. David Davis said it’s one currently on their radar following at least five reports in recent weeks that officers responded to in Raleigh’s southwest district.

“They’ll go door to door and they’ll say that they’re either working for the city through public works, through sanitation, or something along those lines, and they’ll tell them that there’s a code violation out in front of their house,” said Davis…
