June 14 NC Weather: Thunderstorms and Low-Lying Flood Threat from Raleigh to Fayetteville

Raleigh, N.C. – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to roll across central North Carolina starting this afternoon, bringing the threat of isolated flash flooding to low-lying and poor drainage areas through tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a combination of very warm and humid conditions will fuel storm development beginning mid-afternoon Saturday. A Level 2 “Slight Risk” for excessive rainfall has been issued for the northern Piedmont, including areas like Roxboro and Oxford, while most of central and eastern North Carolina remains under a Level 1 “Marginal Risk.”

The greatest risk will be for flash flooding in urban and poorly drained areas, especially during heavy downpours. Cities like Raleigh, Durham, and Fayetteville could see several rounds of rain through the evening.
