The Triangle Homicide Tracker is a record of all homicides reported in Durham, Orange and Wake counties.
The information comes from law enforcement news releases, websites and court records and is updated as we learn the names of those killed and suspected.
The News & Observer strives to report each death accurately, sensitively and as completely as possible and to not rely solely on the law enforcement version of events.
- We go to the scene when we can when news is breaking.
- We seek out witnesses, family members and friends to comment on the homicide and person killed.
- We attend court hearings and use warrants and other public records such as domestic violence protective orders to investigate past arrests and convictions of those charged, and, when relevant and/or recent, report them.
- We research requests to update and, in rare cases, to remove a story from our website when a person’s charges have been reduced or a conviction has been expunged. To contact our Project Clean Slate team, email us at [email protected].
