Duke Energy turns power on at Chapel Hill apartments, but it’s only temporary

Duke Energy Carolinas has turned on the power — at least temporarily — to an affordable apartment building in Chapel Hill so that a nonprofit housing provider can finish construction.

But that doesn’t mean future tenants, some of whom are couch-surfing and on the verge of homelessness, will be moving into the P.E.A.C.H. Apartments any time soon, EMPOWERment Inc. executive director Delores Bailey said.

“It is lovely to see the lights on at the apartment complex,” Bailey said, but “knowing that it’s temporary is not a good feeling.”…
