In a commitment to foster community through celebration, the city is now accepting applications for funding to support both new and existing festivals and special events. According to the details available on the City of Durham’s website, a total of $400,000 is up for grabs in this year’s funding pot. The Durham Cultural Advisory Board, who developed the goals and review criteria for this initiative, is encouraging organizers to not just think traditionally but to also consider the digital space by applying for funds to host virtual events alongside in-person gatherings. Prospective applicants need to partner with a nonprofit and demonstrate adequate experience, insurance, and financial capacity to be considered for funding.

The first is scheduled to be held in-person on Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. at the City of Durham General Services Dept at 2011 Fay St., while the second will take place online via Zoom on July 16. Both sessions will offer Spanish language translation, and pre-registration is necessary through the city’s website.
