LUMBERTON, N.C. (WNCN) — Torrential rains from Tropical Depression Chantal flooded lanes in both directions of Interstate 95 in North Carolina late Sunday morning and into the afternoon, officials said.
A large segment of the storm system broke off from Chantal to the west and dumped 3 to 4.5 inches of rain in Robeson County Sunday morning. The lanes were closed for several miles but reopened by 2 p.m.
The trouble began around 11:30 a.m. when three different areas of I-95 were closed due to flooding, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The northernmost I-95 segment closed by flooding was from mile marker 30 to 33 in both directions, according to an NCDOT alert. One lane in each direction was closed near St. Pauls, authorities said…
