MEBANE, N.C. (WGHP) — The City of Mebane warns that a dam at Lake Michael could fail as a result of the impact of Tropical Storm Chantal.
Mebane’s city government posted a warning on Facebook stating that the Lake Michael Spillway Project coffer dam “could fail” as a result of Chantal’s heavy rains.
‘Weather event’ shuts down Interstate 85/40 in Alamance County
The city says that people with homes in the area that would be flooded if the dam were to fail have been told to evacuate their homes “out of an abundance of caution” by the Mebane Police Department, Mebane Fire Department and Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.
