A string of car break-ins at two churches in Covington has led to the arrest of a North Carolina man, as announced by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. Deshawn Johnson, 26, was taken into custody in Raleigh on July 8 and is facing multiple charges in connection with the incidents that took place on July 6 at the Journey Baptist Church and Community Fellowship Baptist Church.
Charged with eight counts of entering an auto and one count of aggravated assault, Johnson was arrested following a cooperative effort between different police departments. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office credits their Criminal Investigations Division, the Loganville Police Department, and the Raleigh Police Department for their combined efforts in apprehending the suspect Atlanta News First.
The case against Johnson remains active, and authorities suggest that additional charges might be filed as the investigation continues.
