Graham man out on bond faces strict conditions after $44M warehouse fire

MEBANE, N.C. — A 19-year-old Graham man is facing serious charges after allegedly setting fire to a multi-story warehouse and office building in Mebane while people were still inside. The fire, according to a warrant from the Mebane Police Department, seriously injured a firefighter and caused an estimated $44 million in damages.

Around 1:42 p.m. on July 11, police and fire crews responded to a structure fire at Sports Endeavors on Corporate Park Drive. The fire was quickly contained by fire personnel, and all employees were safely evacuated. The suspect, Jacari Bunting, was charged with felony burning of a commercial structure and felony setting fire to a commercial structure resulting in injury to a firefighter.

A firefighter responding to the scene was initially reported to have sustained minor injuries, but the arrest warrant later confirmed the injuries were serious and required emergency medical transport to a hospital…
