The Triangle on Sunday was rated among of the most susceptible areas in the country for heat illnesses, landing in the highest “magenta” category on the National Weather Service’s experimental HeatRisk platform.
As of noon, the Carolinas accounted for the bulk of the 11.2 million people living under this extreme heat threat. The National Weather Service gauges heat risks on a five-level scale — green, yellow, orange, red, and magenta — with the last color representing the greatest danger for long exposure to high temperatures with no cooling relief or hydration.
And the local forecast shows little relief over the next few days…
