Fiery crash involving 2 cars striking multiple trees kills 1, injures 2 on I-540 in North Carolina: Police

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A crash that closed the westbound lane of Interstate 540 in Raleigh on Thursday left one person dead, according to the Raleigh Police Department.

Officers said in their investigation that they responded to a motor vehicle collision around 4:30 p.m. on I-540 near Leesville Road and Glenwood Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers said a Chevrolet S10 and a Subaru Forester had collided with trees and were on fire. The first responding officer said the fire was so intense that the department-issued fire extinguisher could not suppress it…
