Chatham County Authorities Probe Underwater Mystery of Nissan Found in Jordan Lake

Chatham County is currently investigating the unusual discovery of an early 2000s Nissan Maxima, which was found at the bottom of Jordan Lake under the U.S. 64 bridge. The submerged car was first detected by a fisherman using sonar equipment earlier this week, as reported by ABC11.

Authorities responded to the initial report on Tuesday but did not observe any signs indicative of a recent accident. There were also no reports of missing persons related to the underwater vehicle, mentioned CBS17. It took until Friday for the Durham County Sheriff’s Office Dive team to work in tandem with Chatham County deputies in retrieving the vehicle with help from Barnes Auto & Towing.

This area of Jordan Lake is a known fishing destination and the presence of a car in such waters is out of the ordinary. “This isn’t something we see every day, especially in such a popular fishing spot,” Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson told WRAL.
