Duke student slang and lingo: Decoded

You may have overheard a conversation between some Duke students, and at times it may have seemed somewhat unintelligible. There are several acronyms used within the community, so let’s decode some of them.

WU: Referring to the Brodhead Center, formerly known as the West Union (which is why students still call it WU), the main dining hall on West Campus. Spanning three floors, WU is where students can find a range of cuisines to enjoy, as well as scenic places to sit, chat and study.

Perk: The abbreviation of Perkins, in reference to Perkins Library (which is the main library on West Campus). Perkins is connected to the Rubenstein Library and Bostock Library, offering students a range of choices for study spots…
