School supply giveaways happening across the area to help parents as kids head back to school

With parents expected to spend an average of $875 to get kids back to school this year according to the National Retail Federation, ABC11 is closely following different back to school events that offer backpack or school supply giveaways.

On Monday, August 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Kestrel Heights Charter School in Durham is hosting a “Back to School” festival with school supply giveaways, inflatables, face painting and a uniform swap at 4700 South Alston Avenue in Durham.

Then, on Wednesday, August 20, the Durham Recue Mission is hosting a “Back to School” Community Party and Backpack Giveaway. The party starts at 12:00 p.m. at 1201 E Main Street in Durham. They’re giving away groceries and clothing as well, and there will be a drawing for a Smart TV, two Nintendo Switches, three Chromebooks and 100 bikes…
