RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — They’re noisy, they’re smoky, and they’re illegal.
The Raleigh Police Department’s saturation patrol on Saturday night in the hospitality district netted 97 traffic stops, resulting in 79 charges and one arrest. This includes 17 charges for people driving cars with loud mufflers down Fayetteville Street and in Glenwood South.
“I think they’re more drawn to the hospitality areas because that’s where everybody’s at and everybody wants to show off their vehicle. They want to draw attention to their vehicle. So,, this is the best place in the world to go and try to rev your engine and pop your mufflers,” said Lt. David Davis, public information officer at Raleigh Police Department. “And that stands out like a sore thumb when you’re driving around. And it becomes very annoying to everybody, especially our businesses.”…
