GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Students across the Triad are heading back to class on Monday, Aug. 25, as both Alamance-Burlington School System and Guilford County Schools begin the 2025–26 academic year.
Here’s a quick guide to what parents, students, and the community should know before the first bell rings.
Alamance County
The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office is reminding families and drivers about key safety measures as students return to class. The department said its focus this year includes:
- School zone and bus stop traffic enforcement
- Support from school resource officers
- Personal and digital safety education for students
- Encouraging parent and community involvement
Deputies urge drivers to slow down in school zones, stop for school buses, and stay alert around children walking or biking. Parents are encouraged to talk with children about safety and stay connected with schools and law enforcement.
The Sheriff’s Office also released a set of traffic reminders:
- School Zones: Obey lowered speed limits, watch for crossing guards, and avoid distracted driving.
- Buses: Stop when red lights are flashing. It’s the law. Never pass a stopped bus. Teach children to keep 10 feet away from the front, back, and sides of buses.
- General caution: Drivers should be especially watchful during morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off times.
“A few extra seconds of caution can save a life,” the department said…
