One Dead, Another Injured in Separate Shootings Minutes Apart in Durham

A spate of gun violence shook Durham this week as two shootings occurred within minutes of each other, one resulting in a fatality and another in injury. CBS 17 reports that the first incident took place shortly after 7 p.m. in McDougald Terrace, where a woman sustained a gunshot wound to her foot. Durham Police Department responded to the scene at Lawson Street and Rosewood Avenue where they discovered the injured woman.

In a separate, but seemingly connected event, a man was killed in a shooting at a local hotel. This incident occurred roughly six miles from the first shooting, within a similar timeframe. Police radio traffic, as reported by WRAL News, indicated officers were called to the scene around 7:10 p.m. yesterday. The area was secured with multiple evidence markers and remained cordoned off until the early hours of the morning.

The hotel where the fatality occurred has been cited by guests for previous loitering issues, though nothing to the degree of this violence. According to an ABC11 report, the guests mentioned police were utilizing K-9 units to search the area behind the hotel, an indication of the intense scrutiny under which the incidents are being investigated. Despite the flurry of activity, there has yet to be news of any arrests in connection with either shooting…
