Starting on Monday next week, Durham County will begin accepting applications for the Low-Income Homeowners Relief Program (LIHR), according to the Durham County Tax Office. The program provides tax assistance to homeowners with household incomes at or below 80% of the Area Median Income who have lived in their primary residence for at least five years. Award amounts are based on income levels.
According to the Durham County webiste, to qualify, applicants must not already receive state tax subsidies. They must provide proof of residency, such as a property tax bill with their name, documentation of household income (pay stubs, benefit letters, or the previous year’s tax return), and photo identification.
