Firefighters who rescued a dog from a house fire in Durham, North Carolina, have banded together to foster her until her new “forever” home can be found.
Lexie, a Labrador mix, was one of two dogs rescued from a house fire in Durham on Monday morning. Heavy smoke and flames were pouring out of the home’s attic when firefighters arrived, and they pulled the two dogs and a human through a first-floor window.
When she was rescued, Lexie required a breathing treatment involving a special oxygen mask, which a spokesperson for the fire department said most fire trucks are outfitted with.
In a post to social media, the crew of Ladder 3 announced that Lexie “is not back to her old self,” and that they would be taking turns fostering the recovering canine until her future is clear…
