North Carolina to honor 23 overlooked fallen troopers with bridge dedications statewide

RALEIGH, NC – A long-overdue effort to honor fallen North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers is nearing completion, with 23 bridges across the state set to be named after officers who died in the line of duty but were never previously recognized.

The initiative is a partnership between the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the N.C. State Highway Patrol, launched after it was discovered that 23 fallen troopers had been overlooked in past bridge dedication efforts.

“For many years, North Carolina has been naming bridges to honor law enforcement officers killed on the job,” said NCDOT Secretary Joey Hopkins. “But for many different reasons, 23 officers were never honored. We’ve been working with the State Highway Patrol since last spring to make sure these officers are properly recognized for their sacrifice.”…
