The Triangle HBCU Steering Committee is set to host its First Annual Scholarship Luncheon & Fundraiser on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Croasdaile Country Club in Durham. The event will shine a spotlight on the rich legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) while raising critical funds to support students and institutions across North Carolina.
Supporting HBCU Students
Each year, the committee will designate one North Carolina HBCU as the recipient of funds raised. For 2026, that honor goes to Livingstone College, a historic institution in Salisbury, NC, with a long tradition of academic excellence and community service. Distinguished Livingstone College alumna Ruth Reid-Coleman is the Luncheon Honorary Chair.
Distinguished Keynote Speaker
The event will feature Bianca Holman, a proud Howard University graduate and current anchor at WTVD, as the keynote speaker. Her career in journalism and commitment to education make her an inspiring voice for this meaningful occasion.
Leadership Speaks with Pride
Committee leadership emphasized the importance of this inaugural fundraiser. Dr. Iyon Mitchell, Chairman of the Triangle HBCU Steering Committee, and Dr. Arnett Coleman, Chairman of Fundraising, both expressed pride in uniting alumni, supporters, and community leaders around a shared mission: ensuring HBCUs have the resources to thrive for generations to come.
An Investment in Future Leaders
Organizers say the luncheon is more than just a gathering—it’s a chance to invest directly in the next generation of leaders. “Every ticket purchased, every donation made, helps us continue the mission of expanding access to higher education for deserving students,” the committee said.
Limited Seating, Lasting Impact
Community members are encouraged to purchase tickets early, as seating is limited. The event promises not only a powerful program but also an opportunity to be part of a movement ensuring that North Carolina’s HBCUs remain strong pillars of education and equity.
