Duke recognizes 4 faculty members with undergraduate teaching awards

Four faculty members were recognized with undergraduate teaching awards at the Arts & Sciences Council meeting Sept. 11:

  • Robert B. Cox Award: Kristin Stephens-Martinez, associate professor of the practice of computer science.
  • David and Janet Vaughan Brooks Award: Natalie Klco, assistant professor of physics.
  • Howard D. Johnson Teaching Award: Katya Wesolowski, lecturing fellow of cultural anthropology.
  • Richard K. Lublin Award: Lauren Ginsberg, associate professor of classical studies.

Robert B. Cox Teaching Award

Awarded to: Kristin Stephens-Martinez, associate professor of the practice of computer science.

The award recognizes Stephens-Martinez for tailoring her teaching to individual student needs. This includes exam retakes, flexible deadlines and mastery-based grading — where students are given multiple attempts at the same assignment.
