Residents of Durham were put on edge after two separate instances of gunfire damaged SUVs within a mere day of each other, raising concerns about safety in a normally quiet community.
According to reports by CBS17, the latest incident occurred yesterday on East Pettigrew Street, close to South Briggs Avenue. A woman and two children, aged 8 and 11, were inside an SUV when it was showered with bullets around 2:30 p.m. The vehicle was hit but, fortunately, no injuries were reported. The police found at least 24 bullet casings at the scene, a shocking testament to the violence unleashed in daylight.
Less than 24 hours earlier, on Tuesday, another shooting took place on Larchwood Drive near Fayetteville Road, as confirmed by WRAL. In this attack, a man and a woman were shot in their vehicle, resulting in life-threatening injuries for the man and less severe injuries for the woman. Nearby residents, including Ruth Fuller, experienced the terrifying moments firsthand, with Fuller recounting to WRAL, “Bullets don’t have a name, and it very easily could’ve hit one of them or myself.”…
