Durham Dog Shot While Protecting Owners in Armed Robbery as Suspect Isiah Holeman Faces Charges

A dog was shot in an armed robbery incident in Durham on Sunday night, with one of the assailants now in police custody. According to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, the robbery occurred on the 2500 block of E. Club Boulevard. Two masked individuals confronted two men on their porch, and during the heist a dog belonging to one of the victims was shot as it bit one of the suspects.

The shooting happened around 11:46 p.m., when the suspects, one of whom brandished a handgun, demanded and subsequently confiscated a cell phone. After the dog’s intervention, and subsequent injury, the suspects fled on foot. Nearby, outside a Walmart on Glenn School Road, individuals matching the suspects’ description were spotted. During the police action, a juvenile suspect attempted, and failed, to escape on foot and was found to have injuries from a dog bite.

Isiah Holeman, 18, identified by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office as the second suspect, was found carrying a firearm and has been charged with several serious offenses including Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Felony Larceny, and Cruelty to Animals.
