Chapel Hill Police Department is preparing to open its new headquarters at 7300 Millhouse Road. The 40,000-square-foot facility, converted from a former warehouse, includes features designed to support staff and operations. Chief Celisa Lehew told CBS 17 that the project involved detailed planning of all spaces and walls.
The new building includes a gym, wellness rooms, and a dedicated office for K-9 Frankie. According to WRAL, the department is also part of the 30 by 30 initiative to attract more women to policing by 2030. The previous headquarters at 828 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd had issues such as leaks, temperature fluctuations, and moisture problems.
